Depth transducer with no through hulls

There are some depth transducers which can be mounted inside the hull. Without requiring a hole.

Anyone here has (and can share) experiences with those?

Re: Depth transducer with no through hulls

Much discussion and many threads on subject on this and other sites.
( you have noted one) Just have to spend some time to search out.
My own experience... excellent results for last 30 years or so, just need to follow a few basics as you will see in your search, such as location, solid hull/no voids, number of ways to test and adhere to hull, some involved some not. I just tested with a bag of water (to be sure of good reading) and siliconed in transducer. Would use something other than silicone if I were doing today.

I have had no issue mounting them inside. Make a nice clean flat spot without obvious bubbles in the glass layup. I have epoxied them, or once did silicone. I think there is more risk of bubbles in the silicone.
Mine have been in hull areas at least an inch thick and worked. A fishfinder I had read deeper than any expensive sailboat unit.

Re: Depth transducer with no through hulls

Works fine if you have a solid f/g hull. Our hull is >1" thick.

Due to our hull shape, used a bean cut pvc tube filled w/water for a couple of years until we were pulled out to put in the thru hull. Still left the pvc tube as a back up w/our extra depth probe (if needed).

Very easy to maintain and never gets fouled w/growth like a thru hull.

Re: Depth transducer with no through hulls

I think you will find the latest chirp transducers from the likes of Raymarine and Garmin need to be through hull for cooling. When I quizzed RM at a boatshow, they explained to get better clarity underwater, they fire at perhaps 100 times a second compared to 10 times a second for previous generations. So they get hot and need water contact to keep them cool.

I have done it with 2 boats. Just epoxied the puck to good spot on the hull. Some have a slight angle so they will point straight down. Worked fine.

Re: Depth transducer with no through hulls

I have done it with a CHIRP transducer that is supposed to be installed on a planning hull. Just used toilet mounting wax ring and embedded the ducer in it. Works fine, finds fish.
