Depthsounder 4” round replacement

I have a Horizon DS45 depth sounder in a teak bracket that has a hole 4” round. I would like to replace it another sounder that will fit in that space I’m also getting a new transducer . The boat is a 1982 Grand Banks Classic 36.All I’m seeing are the smaller 2-2.5 round depth sounder heads. Anyone know of any that are round?

DMI Marine Middleborough, Ma. 774 213 9744
Has both 4 inch head and transducer. Not cheap.

The guy that runs it used to be head of service for Datamarine. When Datamarine folded, he replicated the Datamarine circuits onto his DMI product. Pretty much a one-man operation with irregular hours, but his work and product is up to Datamarine standard. A drop-in replacement, with about the only difference being the display is larger- no complaint there. BTW, he services existing Datamarine units, but I don’t imagine that’s a growth industry. I've been looking for someone else as back-up service for my Datamarine for 18 years. AFAIK, he’s the only one.

An alternative is to take 1/4” King Starboard in your color of choice, cut, chamfer & mount a square piece overlarge to cover the existing hole. Then drill the Starboard for whatever size gauge you wish

Re: Depthsounder 4” round replacement

Thanks for the info and suggestions. Seems the company is in the process of relocating The product tab doesn’t give the info needed. I’ll reach out regardless and see if he has a depth sounder and let you folks know if there’s joy. I saw some teak rings , comes with a 3” hole which won’t work with the 2.5 newer round sounders. If anyone has an idea where I can find a simple round teak plate I can drill something to fit.

things like the raymarine i70 or garmin gmi 20 I think are ~4" holes. then buy a nmea 2000 transducer like a dst 810

and that will allow you to add onto it later. wind, plotters etc.

Someone published a short article about boring a hole in either the outer lens or behind the lens of an old sounder, and installing a Hawkeye depth sounder in it.

Re: Depthsounder 4” round replacement

I should have been clearer on what I was looking for. Too much coffee! Both the Raymarine and Garmin are square and would look out of place with my large round instruments. I’m looking for a round depth sounder that fits a round 4” hole to match the rest of my instruments. I am considering the teak cover plate from Buck Woodcraft that will cover the existing 4” hole and then drill the 2” hole for a smaller gauge. Not ideal but close. Thanks again for the suggestions

How about this...Pop the glass out of the black frame. Cut a piece of starboard and silicone it in after cutting the roper hole to mount a small gauge?
