I guess that was the point. If it is out of phase it is three phase not single phase. I doubt to many docks are wired for three phase.

I fail to see how L1 and L2 in a 120/240 configuration are not out of phase. They're just 180* apart instead of the 120* you'd get in a 3 phase setup.

How often will a dock have pedestals with two 30 amp plugs that are paired to a common source, which would allow the use of the reverse Y adapter, but not have a 50 amp 125/250 plug wired up?

When some of you have mentioned having a spare 30 amp cord to go find the corresponding out of phase 30 amp plug, how do you know when you do? I assume this is done in marinas that have pedestals with only a single 30 amp plug per pedestal? Why would pedestals that have 2 30 amp plugs mix and match the pairings between pedestals?
