EPIRB battery replacement

Replacing the batteries in an old Kannad 406 Mhz EPIRB. The question is NOT about the wisdom of this (I have a new 2nd epirb)or the type of batteries but whether the information programmed into it (boat name, MMSI number) will be lost with the disconnection of the battery?
also why is there a sensor that activates the epirb when the circuit board is ramoved??

Should be fine for a backup unit. After all the “official” battery replacement is about 50% of the price of a new unit.
