FM Antenna avice needed please

What are people using as an FM antenna in fibreglass boats? Our previous owner just had a 30cm (1ft) domestic wire hanging out the back. It's not really good enough in our area where the FM signal is weak.

I get a superb signal if I connect in the VHF antenna at the masthead, but adding something at the masthead is not really practical at the moment. A compromise deck level solution would be preferred. I tried making a 90MHz dipole but it didn't really work very well.

Thanks,

Aedan

Re: FM Antenna avice needed please

We had stereo antenna connected to shroud inside cabin under chain plate.
Entire mast became active. No expensive antenna required.
FM not so good but far .
AM picked up clear at 150 km from transmitting array. 150km was our border give take not much.
I don't think we risked stroud tension settings and added a couple of washers and another nut below one of them. There was plenty of thread.

Making aerial as high as mast tip theory is ..
If it doesn't tune well, cost is spinning a spanner.

That's a great idea, why didn't I think of that. As you say, no cost to try out. Thanks.

I just got a Glomex splitter from Hodges Marine. It is good for AIS relievers, not transponders. It has a separate FM antenna connection for your radio. Adrian Studer, dAISy suggested this solution for me. I have not tried the FM antenna.
