Furuno LSD Sounder LS6000 Transducer work-around

As a rather shoe-string sailor I'm hoping to be able to use this old Furuno Depth Sounder as a backup BUT it doesn't have a transducer and a new one pushes it well out of the zone of shoe-string. It is 50 kHz. Does anyone have tips on how to do a mix and match? - I have a few old transducers (from when my son was doing some experimentation). Or any advice based on actual experience relating to this?
Cheers!
