Re: Garmin Being Held for Ransom

Looks like Garmin stuff is now working.

Woops, my bad no longer working. Seems like my app was just slow with the notice.

Chart plotters are not dependent on any internet/cloud service to be online to work. (That would be a bit of problem at sea in general...)

Download of new firmware updates may have been out of service for a few days, but hardly an issue.

Re: Garmin Being Held for Ransom

Only way a plotter could be endangered is if you downloaded a virus or similar on the net.

It’s not a bad idea that whatever device you use to load software updates whether a card or a stick is only used for that and no other software is ever put on it.

We sold several crop dusters to Morocco years ago, they had GPS guidance and flow control devices. They ran on Windows software, it didn’t take a month before they were all corrupted with one virus or another from using thumb drives that were used in other computers as well.

Assumption is there are treaties with everyone to cover extradition, one would assume even N Korea?
If not than isn’t there why we have a UN?

If they are idiots, yes.

If they use Monero (XMR) over Tor, no.

And we know they are not idiots since they have already proven they are very smart.
