Garmin GWS 10 Wind Instruments - Experiences ?

We just installed a Garmin GWS 10 set of wind instruments after our second failure of the Nexus wireless set. Not condemning Nexus but we had two different kind of failures with in a few months. I really liked the idea of the wireless unit and when it worked I was really happy but two failures in a couple of months I called it quits. The dealer was very good and shipped me the Garmin Unit as a replacement. We are in Borneo so are limited as to what we can get. Anyway kind of like shutting the barn door after the horses are out but anyone have experiences with the Garmin Unit?

Cheers

Mark

I like the unit, other than it does not auto dim at night.

Thanks Frank it is good to know someone out there is happy with it. The dimming is no problem neither did the Nexus. And at night I go around hitting the dim switches on everything else anyway.

I have and like the unit a lot. It has six (or maybe eight) data pages.that you can configure to your heart's content. Even graphs of wind speed over time. It can also display other data if you have a NMEA 2000 network.

It is best mounted close enough to the helm that you can reach the button to change pages. It's display size - while very sharp - is also a little smaller than some of the other units.

I just think if it gets time information it shouldn't be hard to auto-dim (like the chart plotter does).

Of course that is the GMI10 I am referring to, the wind instrument itself doesn't have a display.

Hey CarL and Frank thanks for your input. I have now used it for most of the last 48 hours heading up the river here and also think I will like it. Couldn't get Temp and Pressure out of it easily but I think that is just FFP (Fat Finger problems) I really don't need it but since it was there and hot today I thought I would try and view it. Anyway thanks again.

Cheers
