Garmin VHF 200 and 0183/2000 connections

Hi,

Has anyone simultaneously connected the VHF 200's N2K and 0183 connections?

We have a Garmin VHF 200 that supports both NMEA 2000 and 0183 connections. We also have a ICOM m802.

Right now we have the VHF hooked to NMEA 2000 network and it gets GPS data when we have our electronics turned on, which is different from our VHF power (wanted to be able to conserve power but still have the VHF on).

However, I am getting a Garmin GPSMAP 78sc handheld GPS that has 0183 so I can connect it to the SSB.

I imagine a situation where the GPS info is available to both coms units. The VHF allows you to select between N2K and 0183 but I have no idea what the impact of simultaneous connections would be. There is no reference to using the connections simultaneously.

I'm betting it'll be just fine.
