Re: Getting a file from a laptop to an iPad or Android phone

Its really much simpler than people here make out. Just plug the USB cable from your phone into your laptop and then browse the phone and drop the PDF into your docs folder. On the phone just send an email with attachment that you selected from the DOC's folder. Skip the ipad, all apple idevices are a pain to deal with unless you have a mac

I email myself pdf files from my Dell to my iPad almost daily. Can you email it?

plug your android device into your laptop using the charging cable. Depending on your phone version it will either mount as a thumb drive or at least identify itself. If it only identifys itself to the laptop, go into the android setting and go to connections. Find the USB section and click the file transfer (Might be call mdt). Your phone will now look like a drive on your computer.

I would just use the phone or ipad to take a nice picture of the pdf file if just a page or two and share or email it in many cases.

Re: Getting a file from a laptop to an iPad or Android phone

Is the friends device in the same room?
- Yes, you can just plug in via a USB cord and it shows up as an extra drive. Cut and paste in file explorer.
- No (or you don't have a cord), use your android hotspot feature (unless it's old they pretty much all have it), connect the laptop to the internet and mail the file.

If he is nearby, you can always dump it to a thumb drive and hand that thumb drive to him.

Lots of methods.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Bluetooth. It works very well for file transfers at close range and is easy to set up.

I am at anchor. The file is on a laptop, which has WiFi, though I am out of range of any WiFi signal.

I am within cell range and have both an Android phone and an iPad with cell.

How do I get the file from the laptop to either the iPad or phone to send it?

Surely I'm missing something easy.

Connect your Android to the laptop with a USB cable.... open the laptop to the file location and drag and drop it to the Android.

Regarding unofficial ringtones being deleted, I never had that on any of my iphones and I'm always using my own ringtone, cut out of the song "Sail" by Awolnation, 1 min 20 sec in:

That's interesting, Heinz. When I forget and plug my wife's phone into itunes... BAM! like a bad habit, they are deleted. LOL Oh well, that is why I have backups. LOL

Ha, Brian. Nice to see you here, too.

BAM! Who controls YOUR stuff, them or YOU?

Two different approaches, even though both conspire, some more than others...

This is a great app. Not only for transferring files [no cable required], but for seeing everything that's on your phone/memory card and organizing/deleting stuff. I have used this app for years and I like it very much. It also has some other included utilities, but I have never used those.

There have been privacy concerns in recent years, plenty of others will do the same too.
