GPS-enabled birds:

Roughly 20 pigeons released Tuesday (August 8/06) from the roof of the San Jose Museum of Art weren't ordinary, sidewalk food-pecking birds. Each bird was strapped with a special backpack containing a GPS device, GSM unit (Global System for Mobile Communications) with small antennas, temperature sensor, pollution sensor and more.
The birds, tracked live via a Google Maps at http://www.pigeonblog.mapyourcity.net , will be feeding data to the site via SMS. The data provides the location, carbon-monoxide levels and identification for each bird.
