Grounding Shielded Power Cable in MFD-How To?

I'm installing a used Raytheon MFD that came with its original power cord to connect to the main panel. The cable has three leads-black, red and rellow and is shielded with a foil or braided wrap (its not in front of me at the moment). The install mandates that the shielding be grounded-how is this done?
I imagine grounding the shielding is to protect against EMI causing problems within the unit-is that correct? Can the shielding be grounded at the main distribution panels negative bus or do I need a different mechanism? The manual shows a small saddle clamp attached to the shield, but does not show where it is grounded.
Any instruction would be greatly appreciated.
