HAM Winlink problems

I have someone trying to email me from an iridium or something thru an ISP and Winlink send them an error message saying I have I haven't authorized any recipients.

This is a new issue, never seen before. I emailed them after their first email bounced and they were not offered the whitelist protocols.

Also, rather unhappy I can't sent a personal email to anyone via NZ and probably Australian stations due to their strict compliance with new FCC rules. Have gotten weather Ok.

About to depart French Polynesia for NZ so is a serious annoyance.

Re: HAM Winlink problems

We understand that US stations are restricted from sending emails to other countries, but can you use a station not in the US to send emails? That is if you can connect to another country due to poor HF conditions.

Re: HAM Winlink problems

Australia should be able to pass third party traffic for a us license holder

Third-Party Operating Agreements

But NZ isn’t on the list

Re: HAM Winlink problems

You might as well get used to these restrictions. They’ve been around since the 1920s. Ham radio was a hobby; one wasn’t supposed to compete with the telephone/telegraph companies by passing "third party traffic." It wasn’t often enforced when ham talked to his brother and said "I’m fine" (which was legal) and then said "Say hello to Mom" which wasn’t.

But a service like Winlink which is designed and built to send/receive messages mostly to/from third-parties is going to get the attention of the regulators.

Your solution is to pay the money and use Sailmail.
