Headset for Icom M802

I want to fit a set of head phones to my Icom M802 to cut down the noise when the crew are trying to sleep.

I had thought the HEIL BM-10ic maybe able to do the job however I now understand that the mic connector on the marine radios is different and none of the HEIL headsets will mate with it.
I was given a tip that there is possibly a German company that makes a headset for the Marine version.
Does anybody have any guidance on this ?

Re: Headset for Icom M802

Hi

I vouch for the Heil headsets. I use a Pro-set and is very happy with it.
Not only will you let the rest of the crew sleep but the Heil will fit good on your head for longer periods.
Cheaper headsets tend to cause fatigue not only in the hearing but also for sitting too tight on your head.
The audio from the Heil mike is also quite good. A lot better then what you will get with a stock microphonio from any of the radio manufacturers.
In order to use the Heil Headset you must buy a adapter (if you don't make it yourself) from Heil.
generally they have different kinds on their website heilsound.com and if they don't have your particular needed they can make it for you.

Heil is know for excellent customer service so just ask.

Amaranth,
While I can also vouch for Heil headsets, remember that any decent pair of headphones will do what you require....as you'd still be talking when transmitting, whether you're using a Heil Headset or a pair of headphones and the Icom HM-135 microphone...

The heil headsets were discussed here recently...

But, FYI....
I use a pair of Kenwood HS-6 headphones as my primary headphones, and they've lasted me many years on-board...

I even have an Icom Microphone extension cable and a headphone extension cable (tied together), that I use to use the M-802 in the cockpit (usually on night watch)....and they work great!!

Of course there is also the Icom "handset" (telephone-style handset), the HS-98....

I hope this helps...

Fair winds...

John
