Hooking up my new VHF radio NMEA 0183

Here is what I have;
Uniden UM385, Raymarine E120W Hybrid chartplotter, Garmin GPS 19X HVS NMEA 0183, dAISy Hat 2, Open CPN on Raspberry PI 4.

My question is this; my GPS cable goes right by the chartplotter on its way to the radio. The radio is by the Raspberry PI. Can I just splice into the cable and get the Tx in to the chartplotter for the gps. Or will the Tx out from the radio to the chartplotter do the same thing.

I am not sure I am following, but for NMEA 0183 the output from one “talker” can be split into three outputs. The same is not true of a “listener”.

So yes, you can splice into the wires form the output from the GPS and spread the information to other devices.

Re: Hooking up my new VHF radio NMEA 0183

I think I got it working. I got GPS to the radio. I tapped into the same wires and set it to the chartplotter and I have gps there also. I sent AIS to the chartplotter on a different wire and port, so that works. The chartplotter doesn't have a tx back to the gps, but the radio does. Not sure if it matters. Also I am not sure the radio is talking to the chartplotter. I need someone to call me with a dsc call it is supposed to show up on the chartplotter.
