Icom M802 Control Cable Connectors

I have to remake the control cable between my M802 and AT140 tuner, and I bought the Molex odd shaped connectors, but see now that the end which attaches to the M802 is not the same!!

What the heck kind of connector is this, and where can I get it?

Or -- can I at least get the little pins so that I can re-use the female part, which I do still have?

Man this is frustrating!!

Re: Icom M802 Control Cable Connectors

might not be worth screwing around with it Dockhead - you can buy a whole new cable for $80 at west marine

https://www.westmarine.com/buy/icom-...hoCdLwQAvD_BwE

I expect that SVB in Bremen probably sells this cable even cheaper

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

Yes, I found it at SVB, but I already bought the shielded cabling and the Molex connectors, so it would be preferable to find the connector (or the pins for it).

Re: Icom M802 Control Cable Connectors

According to the service manual (page 49) that is a JST XMP-06V. Icom part P4001 (5610000290) taking pins P4002 (5610000300) that are JST BXA-001T-P0.6. I think I grabbed the right part, but please confirm. I know I went through this a couple of years ago, but the boat is 10 days away right now and the information is there.

You could confirm from dimensions in this datasheet.

[Edit] internally it looks like there is a JST EH connector, so it could be I grabbled the wrong one above, but hopefully you should be able to sort it out looking at your physical part.[/Edit]

Re: Icom M802 Control Cable Connectors

Keep is simple. Open the box and connect the cable inernally. Its not complicated. Forget about the lousy connector.

Re: Icom M802 Control Cable Connectors

You can definitely buy new contacts for the connector shell. They make a little tool that slips over the contacts and compresses the barb that holds them into the housing. Once the tool is in place you just slip the contacts out.

Normally the new contacts are either crimped or soldered onto the wire ends. Then you just insert them into the correct hole in the connector shell until it clicks and locks in place.

If the plastic connector shell isn't damaged, just rebuild it with new contacts.

If you don't know where to buy the parts try some industrial electronic supply houses. If they don't have them, they will know who the local source is.

Good luck
