Inmarsat Isatphone PRO 2 rubber cover/skin is off

Hi

I have a Inmarsat Isatphone PRO 2, I purchased it new in 2017

Then I crossed Atlantic, but after this it was always inside several protections, a plastic, boxes, inside closer, always indoor, because we didnt use any more. Even in the Atlantic, always was as a emergency, never even used to talk , maybe a test call, but nothing more.

About 2 year ago after purchase, I noticed that the skin was like peeling, the rubber cover starting to fall apart

At the end it was like naked, or I just scratch it. Luckly below there is a more harder layer or cover

SOme one has experienced this problem?
Seems like a chemical problem or something.
Or , and that's why I ask here, it was a design problem , maybe in several units or limited series?

NOTE: there was only maybe a period of 1-2 it was exposed to the seaweather , inside the boat. Not more. Never exposed directly to the sun. And never be exposed to other chemicals, like diessel or something, rahter than that we have in our hands? or was the heat insde the boat?

NOTE2: the cell is still operational, although a stain in the display, which by the way also apeared being stored, maybe the heat
