inReach Mini Power & USB connector, is it proprietary?

Hi,

we are getting an inReach Mini or Mini 2.

They sell it also as a marine bundle with mount, USB and 12v power cable, but that bundle has a longish delivery type and is probably overpriced.

Question, are the USB and 12v power connectors on the unit proprietary or is it a normal USB connector and a standard chinch connector?
In this case we order it without the cables and make our own.

Thanks for your input.

My inReach Mini has a single micro USB connector for both power and data. Not proprietary. Don't know about the Mini 2.

Mini 2 uses USB-C. Not proprietary.

InReach Mini is fantastic and saved my bacon last year. The weather option gives very basic forecasts for every 6 hours for the next couple of days.

But for blue water perhaps consider the new offering: IridiumGo with the Predictwind package.

Thanks I am aware of the IridiumGo, but as Starlink is at the horizon, we'll go for the inReach for now and hope to get Starlink when we are further away from home.
Which might be the case in 2023 or 2024.

The inReach is primarily for keeping folks at home at ease when further offshore and for having a simple means of 2 way sat communication far offshore.

Btw. I understand that there are also better forecasts available for the inReach from other sources for small subscription fees.
Not Grib, but better marine forecasts than the ones from Garmin.

One of them:

There are others, will research further...
