Installing SCAD TM1

I just got a SCAD TM1 tank level gauge for the new black water tank I'm installing.

I have a couple of electrical questions (mind you electrical is not my forte)

The instructions and the fact that it came with an inline fuse that can be installed in the circuit suggest that it should go directly to the battery and not the panel.

Does anybody see an issue with that?
