Iridium Go and Saildocs attachments

Are there any Iridium GO users out there using siladocs for their gribs, and OpenCPN for viewing?

If so, how are you able to actually save/download the grib files from within the Iridium Mail app? Trying to help a friend, and curious for myself.

The saildocs grib comes as an attachment to an email, and in the Iridium Mail app you have two options. Open (in which case it will open in the bundled PredictWind app), or save, which when you click on it throws up an error "cannot save to SD card".

Which OS/platform is the client running on?

Android.

Why, does it work for you on your platform? Unless someone else can confirm then there is no way of knowing if it is the platform, the app, or the OS version (which I don't have the details of at the moment).

No direct experience, but this is from the Iridium FAQ:

Quote:
Why can't I save attachments from email on the Iridium Mail & Web App?
ISSUE:

I get Unable to save attachment to SD card when I try to save attachments from email messages in the Iridium Mail & Web app to my Android device.

CAUSE:

This can occur when you deny the Iridium Mail & Web app access to Storage.

RESOLUTION:

To allow the Iridium Mail & Web access to Storage, perform the following:

Open Settings on your Android
Tap Apps or Application Manager (depending on your device, this may look different).
Tap Iridium GO!.
Tap Permissions.
Tap the slider next to Storage so it is set to the on position.

Androids can also be rooted, give lots more flexibility in storage options.

Can pick up very powerful models a couple years old for under $50.

Also NUC-style, turn into a desktop hook up to a big monitor, keyboard / mouse

Thanks for this, will have him try it out. I searched for quite a long time with specific keywords and never found that passage on the Iridium website.

Re: Iridium Go and Saildocs attachments

I'm guessing it has to be a permissions issue, and how to fix it will depend on the operating system used, which you haven't listed. I use UUplus to download gribs from my Iridium Go rather than their dedicated app. Double click opens the grib in Predict wind. And I can also see it in Opencpn by ensuring the grib download directory is correctly configured
