Irridium GoPhone mounting

I have learned that the Go Phone internal GPS is reportedly most happy when the unit is mounted with the screen facing up. This is apparently regardless of being connected to an external antenna.

The base that the unit clips into seems best suited for vertical mounting IMO.

Has anyone experienced problems mounting the unit so that you don’t look down on the screen?

My question isn’t a complaint about viewing the screen. It’s about mounting hardware and positioning the unit.

To unclip it from the bracket, it seems most logical to lift it up and off, rather than sliding it sideways.

For me, a much cleaner install if mounted vertically.

Re: Irridium GoPhone mounting

Taking this thread a different direction. A friend says he mounted his vertically. No issues.

Anyone out there go to the trouble of mounting their GoPhone flat/horizontal?

I mounted mine flat in the corner of the chart table using Velcro. Works fine and is easy to remove if necessary. It is connected to the external antenna.

That seems far more clever than utilizing the mounting hardware provided. That hardware screams “install vertically”.

Ours just sits on a shelf in a mostly horizontal position, held in place by the external antenna cable. No problems with its GPS that we noticed.
