Issue with Raymarine ST60+ wind

Hi

We have the older ST60+ instruments. We have an issue where when the Wind instrument is connected to the SeaTalk network it seems to block the network. This results in the Graphic and the chart plotter etc not getting any data from the Depth and Log etc

I have tried plugging it in on its own and swapping all the cables round to no avail

Oddly the screen flashes two dots either side of the display

The wind speed seems to work and can cycle between true and apparent

Here is a short video showing the flashing dots

Any ideas?!

Have you tried isolating the instrument from the SeaTalk net?

Unplug the ST cable, leave the sensor cables installed. Make up a ST cable with only +/- 12v (No data lines) and attach to the instrument. If all is well, then either the internal ST circuit is wonky, or the real issue is somewhere else in the network.

I haven’t.. but certainly considering testing that. Everything else on the network seems to work fine though

Will confirm when tested

try using the other plug on the back. if it still doesn't work you'll probably need to replace it. or leave it standalone. I have certainly seen screens crash a network before.

Re: Issue with Raymarine ST60+ wind

I tried reset.. changing the plug etc.. I think it needs to be replaced

I dont have any other Seatalk NG on the boat. I have Seatalk1 and NMEA 2000

If i purchase an i60 (Seatalk NG) I assume I will need either a "Seatalk1 to NG adaptor" or can I connect the i60 direct to NMEA 2000?

I am going to answer my own question and just downloaded the manual. Looks like i can connect it direct to NMEA2000

However:

The issue i have with this though is my Multiplexer is only Seatalk1 "receive" so the Wind data will not get back to the Seatalk1 network. I am not sure how much of a problem this will be though as I have Depth, Log and an old C80 Chartplotter on Seatalk. The most important thing will be for the Wind to receive speed data for True/Apparent which it should do?

Re: Issue with Raymarine ST60+ wind

Actually, the mutiplexer outputs NMEA 0183 which is received by the plotter for other data. So I assume this would take the wind data and then push that back out into the Seatalk1 network!

Maybe the i60 will work quite well

PERHAPS another option would be to look at a wireless router/translator. The f you have to spend money this may do the trick AND give you wireless connectivity to the data.

Here is the one I use.
