Re: LMR-400

I was going to run the GTO directly to the backstay chainplate and only have a single insulator near the top of the backstay. But a fellow cruiser alerted me to the fact that in his setup (single insulator, GTO direct to chainplate) he was getting burning on his transom where salt accumulation ended up making a path to ground.

Something to think about.

Re: LMR-400

Just wondering if you have the software to switch your speech compression on.
My radio bought in 2015 would not work with CS802 v1 or 2 but after 2 years of trying to find it, I just called Icom uk and they emailed me CS802 #11 which is the correct version for newer radios, ones I think iwith a serial number starting with 1.
So if you need the software just send a message and I will email it.

I also made up my own counterpoise following the instructions on this forum, it appears to work fine , cheap and easy to install.

Regards

I used 2” wide strap, I believe .030 thick, it’s tough to bend, it was the thickest Georgia Copper had, I wanted resistance to corrosion. I was able to keep the total length down to about 4 or 5 feet. I have about 20’ left over to give away I guess. It’s connected to a large Dynaplate I got from Frankly.........
I have occasionally tinned (with common 60/40 solder) the copper strap to improve corrosion resistance. Pretty easy to do, clean the copper, use some flux and a hot air gun for the heat.

I was actually contemplating visiting dockside radio, having him inspect my install, and program the radio etc, maybe buy some time in instruction.
Just getting to the other side of Fl is the issue
