Looking for B&G Ethernet connector

The person that installed my B&G Zeus3 system couldn't get the ethernet cable up the pedestal tube, so he cut the end off, then crimped it back on after routing the cable. Does anyone know where I can get a connector so I can correct this mess?

BTW - the connector needs to be a socket with 5 connectors in a circle

Re: Looking for B&G Ethernet connector

I don’t think it exists

That is how I do it. But I use 3m scotchloks for the small cable.

Garmin makes one for theirs...

You can buy an adapter cable from simrad to rj45 female. And crimp an rj45 connector. Onto the boat end. But those connectors are not waterproof and are not great. I would rather have the spliced ends.

Or you could put rj45 males on both cut ends and buy a waterproof coupler.

Try Mouser and use the filters to narrow down the possibilities.

https://www.mouser.com/Connectors/Ci...tors/_/N-76q5a

for the uninitiated, use the visual search function rather than the list function - at least to start with!

Re: Looking for B&G Ethernet connector

Personally, I think it's best to crimp on a standard Ethernet connector. Easy to replace if need be and off the shelf connectors are readily avalable.

Be that as it may, cutting and shutting those wires like shown isn't a big deal. Perhaps wrapping the connections with self amalgamating tape will help if they are exposed to moisture

Would something like this work? (https://www.westmarine.com/buy/simra...able--15354970)

It may not be this exactly but I think your best bet is to find a convertor/connector like this. Then you can use an ethernet crimping tool to create a connector that this convertor can plug into.

Standard ethernet cables and connectors are much easier to deal with and you can find cheap connectors and crimping tools in computer shops or on Amazon.

There are a number of old threads on the same subject, with little hope

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
I had the same problem with a Zeus 2 MFD and went the route of 2 RJ45s with connector, but made the joint under the deck in the engine compartment. Easy to access and make water tight. Must be careful with the colors, though. Easy to get the wires reversed. Good luck.

Re: Looking for B&G Ethernet connector

If it works wrap it with electrical tape and forget about it. I’m sure there are plenty of other things to fix.

Re: Looking for B&G Ethernet connector

That’s actually the correct way to install assuming the connections are sound. It would look cleaner with a better shrink wrap job. Redo it if you worry about connection quality, or tape it up if it’s electrically sound.

If you need connectors, buy a cable and cut the end off. There are wiring diagrams out there if you want to put a different end on it (rj45).
As an aside, B&G does nothing special with the Ethernet protocol, so you can use any switch if you want. This allows sharing the radar with multiple devices/plotters.or putting th plotter on a ‘house’ network.

Re: Looking for B&G Ethernet connector

Navionics (B&G) does not make a field installable connector. I was in a similar situation and contacted them about it. What I did was get a Cat 6 jack from a Big Box store and attach it to the cut end. Plenty of wire ID links on the web. Since I was going to a router with standard jacks, I then just used a standard Cat 6 cable to complete the run. If you need the 6 pin connecotor on both ends, you could then use the RG45 to 6pin adapter. The jack is easier to connect than the male RG45 plug.

Try L-com. They have a whole range of waterproof Ethernet connectors. http://www.l-com.com/home_mobi.aspx
