Lowrance HDS-7 Fluxgate Compass . . . Help !

I am leaning on installing a HDS-7 and BR24 broadband in my Endeavour 35 for our cruise to Nova Scotia this summer. My understanding is that to get the radar to overlay properly it also requires a fluxgate compass. The question is: will the electronic compass in my Autohelm 4000+ work for this and if not what fluxgate compass will?

Or am I barking up the wrong mast all together?

Re: Lowrance HDS-7, fluxgate compass? Help!

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Wyoming pirate.

Why not contact Lowrance, since they manufacture both products?

You need a compass that sends heading information at a rate of 10x per second (10 Hz). Only modern compasses do this.

Good options are Maretron and Airmar. Most other brands use one of these with their own label on them.

cheers,
Nick.

Yes, you should be able to use the heading information from your autopilot to achieve this quite easily another alternative would be to use a SIMRAD heading sensor that will integrate into the NMEA2K system of the Lowrance (Lowrance / Simrad are both Navico companies)

The Simrad sensor is the Maretron sensor with a Simrad label.

cheers,
Nick.
