Monitoring Boat on the Cheap!

For anyone interested, i just installed Logmein (logmein.com) on the boat netbook which allows remote control from anywhere and run any programs etc. w/ an internet connection to the boat, which for me is about everywhere. mooring field has wifi and an aircard can do the rest.

for example I can run opencpn and check position, start the camera and see conditions.
next is to setup "Wake on Lan"

i imagine if anyone has the where-with-all to connect monitors to their computer, this info would be readily available.

i sort of have it working on a blackberry running Opera Mini as a browser.
i'm really thrilled with this!

SmartThings

Plug something like this in and you'll have a killer boat monitoring system.

Interesting, I am wondering if you can use it between two ipads?

I'm thinking leave one on the boat, with nav software running, then you have the front and back camera, and the sound mic.

Re: monitoring boat on the cheap!

a quick search says yes to mac and ipads. not sure about two ipads
https://secure.logmein.com/Products/iOS/
i'm wondering along similar lines. I'm thinking a netbook to tablet (or kindle fire?). also thinking this gives the ability to have a repeater at the helm w/ laptop down below....near shore w/internet

Edit: yes it supports Kindle fire. Sweet!
