NEMA Connector Between Simrad NSS8 and ICOM with AIS receiver?

Greetings,

The Icom VHF with AIS can communicate with the Simrad NSS8 on the NEMA 2000 network if all goes well.

Before I call the various tech support people for their input, I would like to toss the question out to CF for any "real-life" experience and suggestions.

Basically, the Icom and Simrad units have 5-pin male connectors for NEMA. So, will a NEMA 2000 cable with female connectors at each end enable the communication, or is it not so simple?

Correctly connected, the AIS targets should appear on the NSS8 display and provide useful marine traffic information that may be very helpful when I navigate upstream on the Detroit River and other points northward.

As always, thanks for the information.

no you need to build a compleate nmea 2000 backbone powered with terminators.

order a nmea 2000 starter kit. you'll also need a 3rd tee and 2nd shorter cable if you currently have no parts. the screen may have come with some.

here is a simrad one. but you can use any brand

It’s not that simple, but not that complicated either.

Here’s a photo illustration of what you need.

A belated "thank you" for the useful information. I will order a starter kit.

Re: NEMA Connector Between Simrad NSS8 and ICOM with AIS receiver?

So, the T Connectors and backbone help to share the 12 V power and the data from the device(s). For my purposes (connecting ICom VHF to Simrad MFD), it looks as though I will need 3 T connectors, male and female terminator, 2 drop cables and a power cable.
I'll also plan a location for the backbone. Distances between the power source and the devices is not that great-30 foot sloop.
Again, many thanks for the practical assistance!
