Re: newcomer to raspbery pi 3B for marine electronics

I finally used windows with raspberry pi imager for windows with the .imgxz file. It worked fine. But you have to be patient.
First start with lysmarine-bbn. no mouse available.

Letīs read the manual.

What is the normal user and the root user passwords? I would like the wifi configuration.

(to be followed).

Mouse is available. Unless you have some weird mouse. You need to wait for graphical UI to boot. First time takes number of minutes

Re: newcomer to raspbery pi 3B for marine electronics

Your linux system is very responsive on the Pi4, more than the buster arm7 edition that I had before. Chromium seems to be more responsive, as much as the other softwares.

I have a ason usb hub in which my usb mouse and keyboard were plugged, and this usb hub was plugged into the Pi4. Plugging them directly to the Pi4, without the usb hub did the job. The mouse and the keyboard are responsive.
I intended to add a few of the softwares that I like.

sudo apt-get update gave some error messages:
...
et:30 http://ppa.launchpad.net/stellarium/...eleases/ubuntu bionic/main armhf Packages [820 B]
Fetched 14.5 MB in 47s (310 kB/s)
Reading package lists... Done
N: Ignoring file 'bbn-navtex.list-orig' in directory '/etc/apt/sources.list.d/' as it has an invalid filename extension
N: Ignoring file 'bbn-gpsd.list-orig' in directory '/etc/apt/sources.list.d/' as it has an invalid filename extension
N: Ignoring file 'bbn-autoadb.list-orig' in directory '/etc/apt/sources.list.d/' as it has an invalid filename extension
N: Ignoring file 'bbn-noaa-apt.list-orig' in directory '/etc/apt/sources.list.d/' as it has an invalid filename extension

I have a low voltage issue with the Pi4. I might find another power supply.

I will follow the setup that you propose in the manual tomorrow.

Thanks for the guidance.

Those are not errors. They are just harmless warnings

It’s probably feels more responsive due to 64-bit kernel which is default

Re: newcomer to raspbery pi 3B for marine electronics

Effectively, I was on 32 bit.

I will test and adjust and use the system. Up to now, it is simple and effective.

I agree, that the system you provide to the community is very much valuable.

I will report.

Thanks.

Few fixes are in release 2022-07-13. You might just grab that one.

I am setting up my Bristol 27 and there is not a lot of space ;-)
I had the 19"HDTV on the port side countertop next to the companionway. The RPi was behind that. See video.

Now I have my laptop there (Toshiba Satellite i7 Core, 8GB Ram, 17' HD display) since I built a tower for home use. It is loaded with OpenCPN 5.6.2. and also displays the AIS data from the SH VHF/GPS/AIS

My Victron Solar controller Data is displayed on the laptop in the photo.
