NMEA enabled watch for captain

I apologize in advance - this may be covered elsewhere but "watch" is unsearchable within the context of sailing.

I want to buy a NMEA-enabled watch (or equivalent device worn on the wrist) for our captain.

Seems like the Garmin Quatix only works with its own transmitter, and that is obsolete.

Larger bezel preferred. Seems like I see racers with wrist devices but can't find anything outside of Apple (too small) and Garmin (see above).

Thanks.

You can get some instrument data (and autopilot control!) from NMEA 2000 to an Apple Watch with Orca Core.

Other option is WilhelmSK where you can get various navigation data on the Apple Watch through Signal K. You’ll need Signal K running on a device that can talk to your N2K bus (for example a Raspberry Pi with a CAN hat, or a Victron Cerbo GX).

Sadly nothing available for the WearOS watches.

That said, the only time I think having instruments on the wrist might be useful is at bow when anchoring. Everywhere else we have an instrument screen or a tablet easily available.

Some more background. Captain has had cataract surgery with diffractive lenses. Difficult to see using night mode on computer or instrument panel. Watch is meant to complement what is already there without going to "day mode" during the night. Also, ability to check what,s going on when not on watch.

not only for at the bow when anchoring.

thats perfect for the single handed sailor, especially for boats where not all is at the helm station eg reefing on the mast. also very good to set or retrieve the lightwind sails if they are not on a furler like spinacker or parasailior or roundsail and you need to go the bow.

as i don't have iphone so cannot use apple watch i use Orca on my donar phone in a wristband for jogging but would love to have a android watch where this works....its on their list though, made sure its on

I run WilhelmSK connecting to SignalK running on my CerboGX. It was rather nice having the depth sounder with me on my watch up on the foredeck when anchoring last time. I just wish they'd do a histogram chart of the depth so I could easily see the depth trends.

The app is WilhelmSK, and is running on my Series 6 Apple Watch.

Cap, i am now considering Apple Watch. What happens to the watch when you are offshore? I mean the phone will stop working. What happens to the watch? Is it disabled as well?
