NMEA0183 not talking to N2K

I have just installed a Garmin AIS800 with a Garmin plotter on an N2K network. Everything is working fine and I have also run the diagnostics program to double check everything. Now my Cobra VHF radio doesn't show or accept GPS coordinates from the plotter over NMEA 1083 as it did before. Only shows "No GPS data" is on the screen.

The radio does not have built in GPS. but uses NMEA 0183 to retrieve GPS data from the plotter. AIS is on NK2 network. The radio (about 10 years old) only refers to "NMEA" in the manual

Is there a solution for this besides buying a new VHF with built in GPS?

Re: NMEA0183 not talking to N2K

Not having seen the installation....

I would check the baud rate for NMEA 0183 on the chartplotter. Plain vanilla 0183 uses 4800 baud. But 0183 with AIS data uses 38400, which many devices that don't display AIS data won' recognize. I'd look to see if somehow in connecting the AIS the baud rate got changed on the chartplotter. (None of this should affect the N2K side).

You could also check on the radio, and see if it supports 38,400, but IME if it doesn't use AIS data then it probably doesn't even support the higher speed (or even have a way to change the speed).

If it was working before adding the ais via nmea 2000 should have changed nothing. You either pulled a wire out while working or changed something you should not have.

Re: NMEA0183 not talking to N2K

Thanks for the input. Much appreciated. I think I may have brainstormed a solution but I am not at the boat today so will know tomorrow. What I made the N2K Network I changed the comminication settings on the Garmin plotter. I changed port 2 from NMEA 0183 to Nk2 high speed. This must be surely be the fault. There is now no port assigned to send data to any 0183 unit.
