no sound from Icom 402

Ok, finally brought my "new" sailboat home over the past 5 days and the Icom VHF turned on and will transmit but has absolutely no sound come out. Fortuately, the old handheld worked fine. There is no external speaker nor could I find any speaker switch. Turns on fine, switches channels, transmits to the handheld but no sound. Tried the squelch and volume dials, nothing. PO says it worked last year. Any suggestions?

It might be possible the internal speaker got wet and is no longer working. Did you try an external speaker? This would isolate problem to radio itself or something with internal spk.

Is this an Icom M402A?

And, as you stated, Squelch should be all the way down, Vol up.

Got it apart tonight and one lead to the speaker had separated. Soldering iron out tomorrow.
