Northstar 952XD issues

Greetings, Looking for some answers to a couple of issues with a Northstar 952XD. I had a software update done a few years ago when the unit would not pick up the new WASS Sat. and the tide page would require you to manually enter a date everytime you wanted to display tide info. That update was 4.20. Last summer the unit once again required the date to be manually entered for the tide page to work. Also the current date on the lat/long page is incorrect. It reads a date in 1999. Since I paid a marine electronics shop $150 to perform the update I figured the unit would perform correctly for all eternity. Is that not true? The manual states that the current date cannot be entered or changed manually since this info is obtained from the satellites. I receive satilites so why would the date be incorrect? Has any other users experienced these problems. Thanks. I should also add the update never fixed my WASS Sat problem. Northstar told me that my serial number required a new receiver board at a cost of $450. If I had known the update wouldn't correct the problem I would have never had the update performed.
