Old ST4000 Control head case?

Hey Everyone -

Hope the winds are fair!

Trying to get 1-2 more seasons out of my old Raymarine ST4000+. The crazing has gotten so bad on the acrylic in the case that it would be great to replace this. I see better shape control heads for $350-$500 but if I am going to buy that I am thinking it may just be time to replace it all.

I read about trying Novus but I fear these are deeper than that could help with.

Anyone ever cut out the acrylic and put in something in its place? Or, anyone know of a place I could find one of these? Been poking around on ebay but nothing lately. Emailed some of the sellers and they are looking around but thought I would see if anyone here had any thoughts.

Attaching a couple shots to show the damage.

Any ideas?

Maybe try EBay for a broken unit or that specific faceplate….the market for used parts seems very low, so if you see one there just make an offer and many times it will be accepted….

I would argue it is NOT an easy repair. These units are very sensitive to moisture. If you don’t use the correct adhesive, or get a perfect seal, it will let in moisture and kaput goes the screen and/or circuitry…..

No, Novus polishing compounds won't work. Crazing is actually cracks in the acrylic. Novus and other polishers are for scratches, gouges, etc., and will have no impact on the cracks.

If your time is worth very little, these can be DIY'd but I would find an acrylic shop/business that specializes in acrylics to supply the right products for the repair.
If your time is valuable, I would find or buy a replacement.
