Re: OpenPlotter project

Hi Sailoog,

Finaly got my decently powered hub, started hooking up all the sticks, but for some reason, I don't see any output in NMEA sentences in the inspector. All the lights are blinking, gps has a fix, the DVB-T is calibrated, but nothing happens in OpenCPN or in the NMEA-inspector.
The message is Connected with localhost:10110. Error: timed out, waiting for data.

I'm at a loss. All my devices are recognised and working (as far as I can tell).

GPSD still says it cannot run without a device or a socket, but the stick shows up in lsusb. The power is sufficient, 2 amps on the hub and 2,4 on the RPi.

Help?

Forgot GPSD and create a serial input in the "NMEA 0183" tab for the GPS. Apply changes and open the inspector.

Do you have AIS traffic around? do you have an antenna?

Re: OpenPlotter project

I don't believe OpenCPN at present does any filtering, dampening or smoothing of wind, heading, cog etc. There are some tracker requests for this and some users who don't want that and suggest to use better instruments and better GPS instead.

Re: OpenPlotter project

Multiple DS18B20 sensors implementation is done
Now you can add unlimited temperature sensors. Double clicking on any item in the list allow you to edit them.

Test OpenPlotter v0.7.0beta | Sailoog

I have rebuilt some important parts to make easy to add new magnitudes. This means that it will be easier to program python interfaces to read new magnitudes from switches, sensors, arduinos...

Basic Documentation
Multiple DS18B20 sensors
ADC support
Documentation again
Remote virtual switches/instruments panel
Features request

Re: OpenPlotter project

Do you have any samples of XDR sentences with the info you want to get into signalK ?

As far as I know NMEA2k works on Canbus which is based on RS485. There is a canbus shield for arduino. FTDI make a number of Rs232/RS422/RS485 IC chips (the canbus shield may be based on an FTDI chip).

RS online has a USB to RS485 UART Serial Converter PCB based on the FTDI chips for 16 quid.

There's a bit of work to do but anything is possible.

SignalK doesn't seem to recognize XDR. It would be great to have the signalk instrument panel display these on a tablet.
I know nearly nothing about nmea 2000 - could an arduino transmit a NMEA2000 PGN down serial to openplotter?
Thanks anyway, I shall persevere and at the very least hopefully learn something

Selection here...

Just for clarity, I don't actually have any nmea 2000 equipment onboard, just wondering how to get data displayed on a tablet, signalk seems like a good
place to look.

I followed the procedure, and EVERYTHING went fine ! Now I have a tester to check the Pastis temperature before calling the crew for aperitif !

my next todo :
- connect my home made VHF antena, and receive some AIS data !
- contribute to doc writing (e.g. : 1w I/F?). I will need guidance and instructions to work properly on github ...

Agree. We should do something with these non standard NMEA magnitudes to be able to interact not only with OpenPlotter features. The logic way is signalk. Now OpenPlotter converts standard NMEA magnitudes into signalk but I think we should let the signalk structure mature because when the ADC support implementation is done, it will be a lot of new non standard NMEA magnitudes and maybe non standard signalk magnitudes too.

So this could be the route:

Basic Documentation
Multiple DS18B20 sensors
ADC support
Documentation again
Full SignalK implementation
Remote virtual switches/instruments panel
New features requested

Let us know if you do progress with SignalK

All help with doc is welcome!

Documentation repository is on github but we edit this repository through gitbook. There is a super easy web editor.

https://www.gitbook.com/book/sailoog...tation/details

If you want to contribute, create an account on gitbook, send me your nick and I will give you permissions. Thanks!

Now you could connect a sensor for each crew glass and create the personalized and perfect Pastis

Re: OpenPlotter project

Good day Sailoog

Like everyone else, big thanks for this. Please help, I have got a Rpi 2 and the GPS add-on which works through the AURT pins. If I go through a terminal and sudo cat /dev/ttyAMA0 I can see all the data flowing but Openplotter does not accept the ttyAMA0 bit and wants a usb connection. If I go via an Arduino in the usb port works beautifully but I would really like to get the GPS and RPi to work on their own, is this possible? best wishes, Richard

Yes it is. Last week I detected this and it is fixed in the master on github. To update follow this instructions

Test OpenPlotter v0.7.0beta | Sailoog

Be sure the serial interface is disabled in menu > preferences > Raspberry Pi configuration > interfaces. If enabled raspbian takes control of the ttyAMA0 port and do not allow you to use it.

Report the result please

Looks nice the update, great work.

Only, the pressure that I receive in the OSXDR message is now -678 mbar (yes it is minus). Before the update it was correct.

Any ideas?

Are you out of the atmosphere?
Try clicking the buton reset in the I2C sensors tab
