Right, I've just tried that image with a monitor plugged in and same result, doesn't get past a rainbow screen and the LED flashes 4 long, 4 short repeated.
Not sure what to suggest now, I'm afraid.

The same SD card works fine headless in a Pi 2 so it sounds like something to do with the Pi 3.

I'll see what I can find out and report back here.
I tried OpenPlotter 0.5 with the RPI3. Does not boot, green LED isn't even blinking.

Ha! It was you, conachair, who got the RPI3 running with Openplotter. What was the difference to the 0.6 image we tested today?

I'm using an SD card which was being used in a Pi2 before. I've just tried a standard Raspbian image, dated 2015-11-22 and the results are the same, the Pi 3 won't boot using that image.

How fast is your internet? You could try the latest raspbian release..

https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/

Thinking back, I did an upgrade to get the new opengl driver, that might be why the raspbian image I have saved doesn't work, maybe why the openplotter doesn't work as well.... maybe..

I used clean images

OpenPlotter 0.6: flashing green 4x lon, 4x short
newest Raspian 2016-02-26 (says to support RPI3): seems to boot correctly

Excellent! So now if you paste..

framebuffer_width=800
framebuffer_height=600
#uncomment to set WiFi access point when monitor is not present (headless)
device=wlan0
ssid=OpenPlotter
pass=12345678

into config.txt you should at least see the access point, though maybe not be able to access via vnc.

Re: OpenPlotter project

i've got mine (v 0.6) up and running with no sideeffects on openplotter by issuing
sudo apt-get upgrade and sudo apt-get update
while the card was in the Pi2

I cant't try this, because I have no access to the RPI3. In the moment I try the first install with wifi and headless.

I tried your suggestion with the newest Raspian image - seems to boot, but no Wifi.
I guess the RPI3 should be set to adhoc mode?

Re: OpenPlotter project

My pi 3 won't boot with the v6 image, just shows full rainbow screen, had no problems loading noobs and then opencpn, I just thought it was because I was using a 1amp power supply, off to the boat tomorrow where I have 2.5amp powered hub so I will report back with any success.

I guess we are not the only ones with the rainbow and blinking 4x long and 4x short problems:

Re: OpenPlotter project

Too much issues with OpenPlotter v0.6.0 running on Raspberry 3 so don't keep trying, It is not compatible.

I am working hard to have the new image based on the last Raspbian. I have built an image 100% compatible with RPI 2 & 3. Some adaptations had to be done to be able to set an access point with both 2 & 3 boards but it is already done and the wifi access point is working right with the build-in wifi adapter on RPI 3. I have found a way to know what board are you using to run OP and act in consequence.

I have passed the OpenCPN 4.2 test successfully and added and tested a lot of new plugins.

I have not found a working bluetooth GUI manager so I think we must go with the CLI bluetooth manager provisionally. Does someone have information about alternatives? blueman is not working right.

Let me some days please, I want to double check all the critical points. I am quite sure we will achieve an image full compatible with Raspberry 2 & 3; and partially compatible with RPI zero & 1 (opencpn and signal k server might not work on these boards)

Thank you Sailoog!

Meanwhile my RPI3 is running perfectly headless with the latest Rasbian, keen to see OpenPlotter :-).
