PACTOR modems for Winlink system messaging

I've always been curious about PACTOR modems and see that they now have PACTOR-4 protocol out which is 2 times faster than PACTOR-3.

If you have one of these systems, how do you pick up messages addressed to you? How do you get this process started?

I guess I'm asking if the request is done verbally or if these modems are TX and RCV.

P4dragon.com has a page on their website dedicated to PMON - a PACTOR® Monitoring Utility for Linux. Would PMON have any utility or is it just a way to listen in on the other PACTOR data traffic?... ie, it wouldn't take the place of the expensive PACTOR modem?

The modems are two way (tx/rx). The radio is tuned to the frequency of a host station, the modems communicate with each other and you get your email.

Pmon is a listening utility, it’s built for compliance with amateur radio rules.
