Pelagic Tiller Pilot

Hi,
I have just purchased a Pelagic Tiller Pilot. In the drawings it shows a connection to NMEA0183 via a one wire connection. How do I achieve the connection via my laptop to OpenCPN? What do I do or what do I have to purchase. I am a 73 years old mariner and I need help. I have sent 3 emails to Brian at Pelagic with no response. I sincerely hope he is OK.
Ray.

Re: Pelagic Tiller Pilot

Looking at the wiring diagram on his website, I would connect the nmea positive to the “nmea” terminal and the negative to the common negative lead for the autopilot.

Remember, advice is worth what you pay for it.

I hear he is sometimes hard to contact, it’s a small operation, hang in there..

Thanks for the post!
What do I use to connect to my navigation laptop. If via USB what cable do I purchase or how do I get someone to wire it up.
Again thanks

Re: Pelagic Tiller Pilot

You need to buy an RS232 to USB converter cable from Gumtree or wherever. Then connect the Pelagic NMEA connections to the RS232 (as decribed above) and plug the USB into your PC.

You then tell OpenCPN to connect to whichever port has been assigned by your PC for that connection.
