Question about Iridium satellite phone

Hi,

I recently got a secondhand nearly new Iridium 9575 as a gift. I got a bluecosmo pre-paid card with it (not activated). I inserted the card correctly and locked it down. When I turn the phone on it searches, then it says Registered. But then it says SIM error: insert a valid SIM card. Is there something wrong with the phone or is it that there is no active plan on it yet and that is the correct message for an inactive SIM card? Can someone else with this phone answer this question?

Hello,

You are getting a sim card error because you need to activate the card through Blue Cosmos with that card or buy airtime from another provider.

If you use a different provider you will have to get another sim card which will be provided to you.

I would Google airtime for Iridium Go. If you want to get a number of times a day grib, weather reports and you plan on cruising offshore I would think the Iridium Go unlimited plan would be the best. The usual monthly cost for unlimited data including emails is $124.95 with free SMS in and out. One company bundles 150 minutes a month phone calls with a low sub $1 a minute for more call time. Another company charges $139. a month and bundles 200 free minutes for phone calls a month.

Another plan offers unlimited data/SMS for $124.95 a month. Phone calls 150 minutes a month free and free satellite images, wether, weather predictions, weather routing, grub files etc.

As always with anything marine, shop around. In this case the internet is your friend. As for those who don't offer the unlimited plans but try to hook people up with expensive pay by the minute plans...... I don't think I have to comment about these vendors.
