Radar Advice?

I'm looking for a radar unit for my 36-foot sailboat. Because there are only a few days per year when I would need it (limiting cruising, mostly day sails) and I'm on a limited budget, I would like to be in the $300-$1000 price range. I feel little need to worry about integrating with my other electronics, although I do have a Standard Horizon 150c chartplotter. Wondering if anyone has clear thinking on a solid, easily installed older used unit that I should look for (I've been looking at various Furunos with interest), or whether there are any newer units that would be particularly recommended. If an older unit, are there particular technologies or specifications that I should look for? I've studied various articles from Practical Sailor and elsewhere but my thinking remains murky. Thanks in advance for any help--
