Radar, ais, chart plotter, wifi, multi-function display packages

I use navionics on my iPhone when close to shore/port as my old Garmin chartplotters cant be updated with current charts. I'll be ripping them out and replacing with Zeus2 units during my current refit. Good deals to be had right now on Zeus2 and can add wifi with their $200 wifi-1 unit.

Re: Radar, ais, chart plotter, wifi, multi-function display packages

I went with a Lowrance package on my 8m Solar Catamaran:
Autopilot Outboard Steer,
4G Radar
HDS7 Chartplotter
Link-8 DSC VHF
36v xi5 GPS Autopilot/Anchor

The reason I went Lowrance as the ability to have the radar work with OpenCPN. I want with the smallest chartplotter because the App they provide I can mirror it onto my 17.3" laptop screen running an android emulator, DuOS in my case. It could just as well be an android tablet.

I paired all of it with an AIS from Vesper.

Now I can use Outboard Pilot to steer to my destination and once there drop anchor using the trolling motor.

Re: Radar, ais, chart plotter, wifi, multi-function display packages

Well I pulled the trigger and bought the reman Zeus2/3G radar bundle from Defender. I already had B&G instruments and the uniformity of UI and functionality is a plus.

While it could be argued that I should have popped for the latest generation stuff (Zeus3/4G) since it will be supported longer, it would have been almost 2x as expensive and what I got is already a huge upgrade over what I was running.

My old Alpha 3000 autopilot head unit bit the dust so I'll be adding a Simrad auto pilot too when I get around to that end of the boat.
