Radar mast mount

So I now have my radar and a self leveling mount ready to install next weekend. The manufacturer recommends 12-18" below the spreaders (I only have one pair, and they are wood), but I was thinking about putting the bottom of the radar just above the spreaders, that way if I need a sail guard, I can make a bow that would fit from spreader tip to spreader tip (and not put more holes in the mast). I don't know exactly how high that puts it, maybe 20-25' off the deck.

Thoughts?
