Radio Install

Good Afternoon All,

I am currently replacing my JENSEN (MCD9424RC) Radio in my Hunter 310 (2000) with a Kenwood (BR 330U).

I was able to switch the adapters without a problem, and the radio powers up and plays music. However, when I play music over the volume of 9 the radio turns off then turn back on. I bought a multi-meter which shows there is 8V coming through the red and yellow power wires going into the radio from the switch board . The manual says that it should operate between 11V-16Vs (if I'm reading it right).

Based on this I am thinking that there is not enough voltage which causes the radio turns off when the volume is turned up.

My questions is regarding the voltage coming from the switch board. Is 8V the standard working voltage coming from the switch board? My batteroes are old and I am thinking that maybe 8V is reduced from the normal 10V because of the age of the batteries is this possible?

Thank for any help you may be able to provide here.

Re: Radio Install

Something is very, very wrong. A lead acid battery is fully and completely dead at 10.5 volts. At 8 volts it is a door stop.

Check the voltage at the battery if it is 8, throw them away. Today.

If it is more like 12.5, then look for bad connections.

Re: Radio Install

Either dead battery or a bad (resistive) connection somewhere in the circuit. If it’s the latter, you should find it quickly as high resistance connection can heat up, melt or worse. Simple enough to find the problem with a voltmeter.

Re: Radio Install

Or wrong wire size, which is the same as a high resistance connection.
