Radiofax update

Gough Lui posts some interesting stuff on his "Techzone' and the latest series is especially interesting... to some of us at least.

Based in Sydney, NSW he has been using remote KiwiSDR receivers to check the status of wefax transmissions around the world.

This is as good a place as any to start..

Very interesting to see.. at the end.. that Germany is transmitting a Canadian ice chart..

Beats sitting on your boat wondering of some country or other is still in the fax business.

Re: Radiofax update

Ping,
Thanks for posting this...as usual, you come up with a rather cool idea...

FYI, I do get the DWD broadcasts here in Florida just fine, but I'm never sailing at those latitudes, so I never print out a chart from them...(but nice to know if I head to Greenland I'll have weather info...hi, hi)

Also, an FYI to everyone...
Just two weeks ago, I heard from a gentleman planning an Indian Ocean passage, using the Thailand WeFax charts, transmitted out of Bangkok on HSW64...he reports they're great!!

thanks for your good wishes.

So, while I'm usually praising the US NWS/NOAA charts from USCG, or those from Aus and NZ BOM, it's nice to know that there are other professional maritime meteorologists / wefax stations providing ocean mariners excellent weather info...all for FREE!!

Fair winds
