Re: Rasberry Pi?

Interesting possibilities with the Arduino and Raspberry. I got a Pi thinking I could set it up with the openplotter program but not successful as of yet. Definitely not plug and play. My windows Mini ITX computer is very low power coupled with USB powered monitor and I have kept it on on passage for the last few years. I have set up a 3G router, victron solar monitor and outside camera. With team viewer program I can monitor remotely whenever I am off the oat as long as I have internet. Only cost after initial purchase is data package for router which I use for normal internet anyway.
With the arduino I see using the nano barometer and open cpn to plot barometric pressure. I have a 12V water heater element installed and I often have enough power when it is windy and sunny to heat the water. I just need to use arduino to monitor battery voltage and cut it in and out unattended.
What is fun is sitting someplace using my smart phone and being able to see the desktop of the computer, run opencpn etc. Great for anchor worries.

Re: Rasberry Pi?

Getting a PI to run openCPN is very easy. I downloaded the Openplotter software. For a Pi3A it uses about 10% of the processor power running opencpn and the add ons. Getting SDR working requires the DTV doggle and a seperate usb power supply to drive it (Powered USB Hub works), Pretty sweet. Amazon has a 20 inch monitor for $65 ish that would work well with the hdmi video. Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and bob's your uncle.

I also made a autopilot from scratch, just for fun. Taught myself python then too. A fun 2 weeks of building and programing.

I got my floathub when they did the kickstarter, I've not been charged any subscription fees since then. The BASIC service has no fee. That works fine and they keep adding services and options that may make an upgraded plan worthwhile.

The original that I have is a wifi unit, when I connect to my verizon hotspot it puts the data on the floathub account. The wifi/cellular was not available, if I had to buy today I would go that route.

I'm a customer, and so far satisfied with the device.
