Raymarine AIS 650 - should i use N0183 or N2000

AIS 650 has both NMEA 0183 and SeaTalkNG (NMEA2000). The former has slow and fast connectivity 4800 and 38400 via bare wires. It also has StNG which is NMEA2000. What I am confused with is which one should i use? I have ShipModule multiplexer for NMEA0183 with converter and I also have N2K network.

Can I use both? Is there any benefit?

NMEA0183 inherent limitations are addressed with the multiplexer/converter.

at the end of the day, my goal is to pass AIS info to B&G Vulcan 9 plotter and GPS info to the ICOM VHF.

Yes, i did read the AIS 650 manual but it does not talk about in case both systems are available which one or both should be used.

Thanks

Val

if you have an n2k network that feeds your plotters then use the n2k network.

the 183 is only if you can't use the 2000.

is the icom nmea 2000?

Thank you for replying. Yes, the actual feed to the plotter is N2k but 0183 is part of the same network via the multiplexer and converter. Sounds like you saying i cannot or should not use both but instead go with n2k.

Icom is nmea 0183 only.
