raymarine autohelm st1000 connecter question

Good morning, i have a Raymarine st1000 autohelm with the round,6 pin female connecter & it only has the basic 2 wire, positive & negative wires on it & the red positive has come loose from whichever plug number it goes into. Does anyone out there know which number it connects to ? the negative is connected to # 2 Thanks for any input !

You can download the owners manual from ST1000 & ST2000 Tiller Pilots | Raymarine
It has a picture of the wiring for that.
Positive is Pin1, negative is Pin2, but confirm with manual.

Probably best to have a look at the reverse of the male socket to be certain which pin lines up.

Re: raymarine autohelm st1000 connecter question

At great risk of getting flamed, I will tell you my experience with Raymarine autohelm.

I have had 2 of these units (I love tiller steering), one st1000 and one st2000+. I sail solo much of the time, so this piece of gear is vital. I quickly found that the original connector is, well, difficult in many ways. So I snipped the end off, and replaced with a 12 volt barrel style (aka cigarette lighter) plug. I used a basic waterproof model (inexpensive) from West Marine. I replaced both the male on the autohelm cable, and the female mounted in the cockpit.

The new female 12 volt outlet was handy to have in the cockpit...In addition to powering the autohelm, I used it to power phones or handheld GPS or a spotlight. On one of my boats I had a small solar panel (Canadian Tire, with built in charge controller) which I plugged into this outlet with the panel laying flat on the cockpit seat. It also powered a Davis Mini-amp Mega-light which I used as an anchor light.

It was much easier and quicker to plug in/pull out than the original autohelm connection...since there was no longer an alignment issue.

I used this setup in all kinds of weather, and it was not shielded from the elements in any way (no bimini or anything like that). Over the course of 5 years, never had any trouble with the connection. Two different boats. 5 years each.

Probably important to mention...I sail in fresh water, Lake Ontario.

..And yes, I'm that weird guy who takes pictures of his autohelm, cause when you sail solo its like your best friend. Pics attached below.

nice setup but i'm not understanding the point that you're trying to make,if you're trying to make one. I am trying to find out which pin the positive wire goes to on the round 6 pin female connector.

Just trying to add a little colour and interesting (hopefully) personal experience related to the topic, and maybe an alternate solution/improvement not considered. Your question was already answered in previous posts.
