Raymarine Axiom - remote screen use

For those with newer Raymarine (Axiom / + / Pro)

What’s your comment on placing unit in good location for cabling, connecting to reliable strong boat WiFi AP (not Adhoc), and running 98% of use from Android tablet?

The advantage is easier cabling and reduced chance of theft as it’s inside the boat.

Re: Raymarine Axiom - remote screen use

Everybody has their own risk tolerance of electronics. I agree there is some risk of theft but I am putting my Axiom unit at the helm (its both touch screen and controls). I am also using a A/P control head (p70) at the helm so I don't have to rely on using the MFD for too many operations. As I'm installing these electronics now I don't have any real time experience. I'm also running real cabling for the new Raymarine radar even though it has WIFI capability. You might have a protected helm (from weather) but for me a tablet in the cockpit
would not be acceptable. Your situation on a 61' cat is different.

Re: Raymarine Axiom - remote screen use

I moving the MFD to the helm and the tablet to the nav station.

Hard to see the iPad retina in full daylight conditions
Touch screen is not as wet finger friendly as the MFD.
Acceptable viewing angle on the MFD is better.
