Raymarine b744v tridata opinons?

I am currently upgrading my electronics from old Datamarine depth and speed log to an integrated E series Raymarine system. This includes a DSM 300 module and a Raymarine b744v thru hull transducer which logs speed, depth, and temp. It requires a fairing block for installation. I am looking for folks with experience using this particular transducer. It looks like a pain to install into a cored hull and I am not sure I like the fairing block, but would appreciate other's experiences. Thanks.
