Raymarine C80 issue .. any help apreciated

My Raymarine C80 has been working perfectly well since I bought my boat.

I always winterize the boat heater on etc... and no problems. However, when I got it ready for spring after 10 minutes on the water the screen went completely fuzzy. The screen has been been mostly working since but still goes fuzzy for no particular reason. Does anyone have similar problems or ideas?

Thanks in advance

Sounds like problem with connectors between PCB and screen. It's usually fixable. There's a flexible ribbon cable which connects the screen to the PCB. You have to clean/reconnect those cables. If you Google, you should find details of how to fix it.

Thanks very much Ullar I’ll give that a try.

Hi Ullar, I took a looked and there is not a ribbon cable anywhere in the entire compartment.

The most common problem for this symptom seems to be a poor connection between the driver board and the screen.

It is an easy fix. I have repaired a number of units for fellow cruisers. Unfortunately, much of the unit needs to be dismantled before you can access the defective connection. But if it is not working you do not have much to lose. These units are not worth professional repair.

That sounds frustrating! It could be a connection issue or something with the display itself. Have you tried checking the cables and connections? Sometimes a good reset or firmware update can help too. Hope you get it sorted!

I have bought a used unit on ebay that had this fix implemented. And i had re-occurring problems with display. Removing hot glue or whatever was used to secure that connector, and securing the ribbon cable to connector helped. I am issue free for the past few seasons. I think its design flaw in these displays that sometimes comes up. That connector can work loose.

I also have a C-80. Screens crap out, get funky from heat or something.

Hard to find even used units in working order.

Pondering my replacement.

As I mentioned I coud not see any ribbon cable to the back od=f the screen.
I ended up disconnecting the cables from the battery as there was a little green corrosion..i filed all connections and so far this seems to have done the trick as the screen s=is working again. CFould this really have been the issue ?
