Raymarine gs125 turns off and won’t come back on…

The strangest thing is happening to one of our chart plotters. It is our small plotter up at the help, a Raymarine gs125, which is setup as a slave to our bigger gs165 that is inside at the nav station.

The gs125 shuts down and doesn’t come back. I’ve tested the power, and there is power. I haven’t been able to check power at the device, because the gs125 starts working again.

Next time the plotter shuts down; I will… test the power at the back of the device (just need to find the pinout mapping for the RayNet cable). I will also restart the entire network (all plotters, maretron, etc..) and see if that helps.

In the meantime, any thoughts?

Voltage drop. Need 11.7 or more. Check the voltage at the power cable and work your way back to the bad connection. Don't ask how I know!

Haha, okay, I will not ask how you know

Sounds good. Next time it happens, I will check the power at the device and the source... our boat is 24 volts for the most part, there are just a couple of 12 volt bits (including the Raymarine and Maretron).

It's back... the problem

Power is there 26VDC.

The display just won't turn on anymore.

There is a very dim light in the power button (not the bright red light).

There may be volts, but not enough amps getting through. Try testing with alternate power source. Portable battery or run temp power supply direct from panel or battery.

Thank you.

Unfortunately, I had to find out that my volt meter only measures up to 10 amps, but the Raymarine takes 15 amps. I was going to pick up an external power supply before leaving Florida, but... of course... I did not.

It would certainly suck if I fly to Florida, pick up a new unit, and have the same issue.

Raymarine email support was AMAZING. They don't believe it's a power issue, but rather an issue with the unit. We worked through a whole bunch of trouble shooting bits.
